The French quartet just dropped their new music video Belleville directed by Ludovic Azémar. This, their second single from their forthcoming, as-yet-untitled and eagerly anticipated sophomore album, offers up a hard contrast to the elegant, ambient edges of the first single Ailleurs, showcasing a band with true depth and dynamism. It’s also a song that builds from acoustic beginnings into a jumpier, altogether more alacritous riot of frivolity, with squelching bass and machine gun lyrics executed throughout.
What’s more, the vocal interchange between Benoit and Camille is a thing of true beauty, perhaps belying the song’s punk rock exterior. Belleville the place may not be for everybody, and that’s one of the things that’s great about it (no tourists). ‘Belleville’ the song may be a more contained pop record than Ailleurs, but it’s no less epic in its ambition.
