In case you missed her, make sure that 2018 will be the year of electro-pop singer Sigrid. This Norwegian girl who recently got nominated for the BBC Music Sound Of 2018 is just 21 and signed a record deal with Island Record (Universal) before giving us a fresh and cool EP Don’t Kill My Vibe. While waiting for her debut album, we asked her some questions as she just released her brand new video for her smash hit Strangers.
You named your first EP ‘Don’t Kill My Vibe’, is that a message to someone?
You know, this EP was kinda like releasing my personal diary. It seems scary as all of the songs are about my real life. I love music because you can say what you can’t say normally. For example, my song Plot Twist is my answer to getting over someone as you know sometimes you don’t have the opportunity to tell the guy directly: “you know I’m over now!” Also, Don’t kill my vibe was when I was in a writing session and it was quite difficult so I was like «please let me do my stuff and let’s get over it»!
”I love music because you can say what you can’t say normally.”
So your track Fake Friends is about the fake friends around you?
Haha no… my song Fake Friends it’s not so much personal as I’ve never got fake friends in my real life. It’s just a symbol of friendship.
How is a 21 years old girl dealing with the music industry?
My parents are very supportive and give me some good advice. They know me so well so I trust them a lot, and I have a great team, my label, my management, my PR… everyone is great!! I’m so lucky!
What’s the next step for you?
The album is coming out next year for sure. It will be as good as possible! A lot of exciting stuff is happening but I can’t tell you more as it’s not official!
What are you listing right now while touring?
I really love this french band called Hyphen Hyphen and their song Just Need Your Love is just amazing!
Any guilty pleasure?
To be honest I don’t really have any guilty pleasure but I will say that I love stalking the Kardashian family on Instagram!
