Tunisia’s youth culture is making waves, influencing regions around the East Mediterranean. Istanbul has their foot in streetwear and Beirut in couture. Tunisia lies somewhere in-between. While there has been a strong influence from France and Italy, Tunisia is still defining their style while providing textiles to their partners in the North for years, we went to Tunis Fashion Week to see how the youth, culture, and of course fashion has evolved since being on the centre stage at the start of this decade with the Arab-Spring.
It has real people, and real problems, that they are tackling one at a time. Fashion as wider field is one of creative expression, and with visits to concepts shops like Musk and Amber, we also saw that many designers are taking a collective approach, regaining their voice that was heard worldwide at the start of the decade. Now, there are real changes happening at the surface with designers like Braim Klei, Narciso by Seyf Dean Laouiti, Lyoum, Heritage Collection, and Shourouk.
