Perfume Genius (aka Mike Hadreas) has just released his latest video ‘Wreath’, the third from his album ‘No Shape’ that came out last May.
The clip is made up entirely of videos from a competition organized by Perfume Genius that proposed participants to film their way of dancing to the title. The winning video sees Mexican Esperanza Kroger get carried away by the dance in the streets of Cholula.
According to Mike, ‘Wreath’ deals in part with the feeling of being betrayed by his body and wanting to get rid of it. The title of the album ‘No Shape’ is taken from the lyrics of this song: ‘I wanna hover with no shape … I wanna peel off every weight’. The goal of Perfume Genius in organizing this contest and publishing this clip was to encourage everyone to experience the feeling of ecstatic freedom and self-surrender that he could feel by recording ‘Wreath’.
