Fashion empress Naomi Campbell recently celebrated three glorious decades of working in the industry and has been revealed as the recipient of this year’s British Fashion Council 2019 honour, recognising her trailblazing contribution to fashion, prolific career as a human-rights advocate and philanthropic work.

Naomi became the first black British model to appear on the cover of British Vogue back in 1987, following her appearance as the first black model on the cover of French Vogue a year later. Campbell feels “blessed” to be awarded the respected tribute, which was assigned to Donatella Versace in 2017, as an icon is someone she perceives as a “distinctive charm.”

British Fashion Council’s Chief Executive, Caroline Rush, explained why Naomi was selected to receive the award later this year, remarking:

“She has always contributed

through her

career to change for the better.”

Besides, Rush told British Vogue: “Naomi has made an incredible contribution to the fashion industry throughout her career as a supermodel, as well as through her global philanthropist work with charities and incredible fundraising efforts for a more diverse and equal future, especially in Africa […] Naomi is an incredible ambassador for Africa, building bridges between nations and putting African designers at the forefront of the global fashion community through events such as ARISE Fashion Week in Lagos. She is an inspiration to many of us and has contributed through her career to change for the better.”

The annual British Fashion Awards ceremony will take place on December 2nd at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Now lets celebrate some of our favourite Naomi film pics off the runway and off-duty!
