Back in July, when we met rising singer Naaz. She’s only 20 and is about to become one of the most promising pop singers of our generation. We decided to have a little chat with her in the Parisian streets before her very first gig in France. She told us that it’s also the first time she was exploring the city as she only knew the Eiffel Tower and some touristic places. For Naaz, it was a cool idea having a promo out of a room and she enjoyed being like a normal girl walking in the streets talking about her music.  During this walk, we asked her if there are any French artists who might have influenced her but unfortunately, she mentioned only Belgium singers like Stromae and Romeo Elvis, so we clarified her thoughts.

“Oh my god, I though Stromae was French.

My whole life is a lie!”

When we asked her how a 20 years old girl deal to be always on tour, she told us that she enjoys travelling  even if it’s a little bit hard as she’s not faced to the real-life « The contrast of my life is that if I’m not touring, I’m in the studio making songs ». And when we wanted to know how she managed to organize all this, she funnily replies « I don’t care about hotels as far  I don’t die. I’m not big and don’t mind not having the fancy hotels, I always mention this to my manager…I’m just gonna sleep there! »

After a first EP, she’s currently working on the second one. She just wants to develop her sound and style, « I’m still growing up, I want to explore some sides of me while keeping the ADN of my first songs… ». Naaz’s inspiration for this upcoming new project is to listen to no music, « I only want to be inspired by my own feelings, not by other musician’s music ». Behind this young juvenile lady, we understood how professional and mature she is.  When we questioned her about being young in this music industry, she told us that things changed a lot when you’re a singer as even without a label you can deal to promote yourself, « an artist can control whatever he or she wants with the social media for example, no big pressure from label anyone!»

You can catch Naaz in Paris during the Pitchfork Avant-Garde party on October 31st.
