Set in the magnificent Hôtel d’Avaray, photographer Louise Reinke takes us backstage at RVDK, the world’s first sustainable couture brand, during Haute Couture Spring Summer 2025. Following the house’s mission of reinventing the notion of a couture house with “New Ethics in Luxury Fashion” ” creations were made with everything that’s left, nothing new.
Rejecting the wasteful methods of the fashion systems, each piece is handcrafted by tiny ateliers and artisans using premium existing materials and leftovers.
In the meantime, handwoven Thai fabrics were sourced from Thai archives, as were numerous embellishments made from vintage Thai jewelry, leftover beads, pearls, repurposed plastic bottles, antique finds, buttons, and more. Feathers and many fabrics are vintage, and a surplus of couture fabrics, leather, and exotic remnants are salvaged from luxury brand bag productions. RVDK has once again shown that ethical design can be stunning and captivating by bringing a sense of nostalgia and longing for the days of haute couture into high fashion.
