Even though Many Belgian artists such as Angèle and Roméo Elvis are getting massive in France, we need to remember that Canadian ones are still hype. After Peter Peter and Charlotte Cardin, let us introduce you Bernhari. Having released two LPs in his country, he will offer the French market his debut EP by the end of April.

“Canadian artists have always been hype”  – he told us while thinking about Céline Dion. Alexandre Bernier started writing and composing in French when he was 16, even if his country is bilingual – he was more at ease to develop his artistic skills in the language of Molière. And maybe, that’s why he decided to come to Europe.

This upcoming EP contains tracks from his second album which is already available in Canada since 2016. When we asked him if he’s still attached to these old songs he replied that they still have the same meaning for him. “It’s part of the job of a singer – even if it’s an old feeling – to adjust it to your current emotion… this album I’ve made it when I was alone, I was in my world and I’m proud of this piece of work.”

In spite being an author, this Goddard and Hitchcock fan, attached a big importance to all the visuals aspects of his project. “For this EP, I’ve been to Tokyo, making a video for each song. It’s a like short movie but in several episodes”. And it’s not a coincidence finally if his first stage in Paris was at the Silencio, a club designed by David Lynch himself. The cinema has a big part in his life and having a friend called Xavier Dolan helps a lot. Alexandre is working on a first french album and decided to team up with the coolest label Arista (Sony) for release.

“I think I’ve got my place in France, without any pretension, my universe is quite different than others – I might consider myself as a modern poetry”

When talking about his new career in France, he told us that Paris inspires him a lot. “I really love this city, I like the architecture and the way of living. The only main thing I don’t like is that there’s not so much green… I’ve been inspired by Paris and all these new talents like Blondino, for example, making some great music”.  The next step for Bernhari is an EP and touring in his country before coming back to Europe and promote his project which is clearly a masterpiece.  It’s been a long time that we didn’t hear an artist express himself in such a personal way and we just recommend you to catch him on stage as soon as possible.
