Backstage photographs by Natasha Peterson, styled by Alex Kennedy, offer an intimate look at Zoe Gustavia Anna Whalen’s Spring Summer 2027 collection, presented during New York Fashion Week.
Since launching her eponymous label in 2022, Whalen has developed a practice in which deadstock textiles and antique linens become the starting point for pieces that feel discovered rather than manufactured, with irregular surfaces, volume, and construction allowing the garments to retain a sense of their making. Every piece is draped, patterned, and sewn by hand in Whalen’s New York studio, making the process as important as the finished garment. That intimacy is visible in the collection’s sculptural forms and tactile surfaces, where deadstock materials and antique linens are transformed rather than erased. The clothes carry traces of their previous lives while becoming something new, creating a dialogue between the past and a possible future.
